Valleyfair opens for the season this weekend, but some younger guests will need to bring along chaperones if they want to join in on the fun.As part of a new chaperone policy, the Shakopee amusement park will require all guests ages 15 or younger to be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 to be admitted to, and remain in, the park after 4 p.m.After 4 p.m., chaperones do not need to stay in constant physical proximity to their charges, a spokesperson tells the Pioneer Press, but must remain within the park and available by phone. The new policy — which is also going into effect at other regional amusement parks owned by Cedar Fair Parks — will be enforced on Sunday for Valleyfair’s opening day, as well as on Saturday for a preview event for season passholders.Soak City, Valleyfair’s waterpark, opens on May 27.Why the change?“Over the past two years, there have been increasing incidents of unruly and inappropriate behavior across our industry and ...Twins starting pitcher Tyler Mahle headed for season-ending surgery

The story of the Twins season thus far has been the outstanding work they’ve received from their starting pitchers. But their depth at that position will be tested as the team announced Thursday that Tyler Mahle will undergo Tommy John surgery, ending his season essentially before it began.Mahle, 28, made just five starts this season, posting a 1-2 record with a 3.16 earned-run average. He was removed from his last start on April 27 after four innings due to discomfort in his right elbow. The Twins acquired Mahle in a trade with the Reds last August, shipping three prospects to Cincinnati including young sluggers Spencer Steer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand. The Twins were aware of Mahle’s history of arm problems, and he made just four starts after the trade in 2022 before he was shut down with a strained shoulder. However, the team doesn’t think the shoulder and elbow injuries are related.“These things happen over time. It’s chronic use,” Twins president of baseball operations Dere...What Loons captain Michael Boxall wants to see from Emanuel Reynoso

Minnesota United star player Emanuel Reynoso has been doing multiple workouts each day and has been meeting with MLS to work toward having his suspension lifted, but he has yet to sit down with his teammates to make amends for missing the first four months of the MLS season.Loons captain Michael Boxall talked Thursday about what he would like to see from Reynoso.“You’d like to understand kind of what was going on, but at the end — I’m not — I’m the last person that is going to judge anyone else,” Boxall said. “The feeling around the team is no one really holds grudges here, so if he willing to do the work, if he’s willing to work hard for the club and his teammates and for the fans and obviously make up for the last six months, then it’s something we need to see.”Reynoso didn’t report to preseason training in early January and was suspended without pay by MLS in mid-February. He missed the first 30 percent of the season and his return to the field for MLS games is still a ways off.“...City of Pittsfield shuts down COVID-19 dashboard

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled for a onetime top aide to ex-Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York and for others who were convicted of corruption related to an economic development project known as the "Buffalo Billion.”In two cases before the court, both liberal and conservative justices were unanimous in saying there were problems with the convictions. The cases are the latest in a line stretching back years that criticize federal prosecutors for overreaching in public corruption cases against state and local officials, as well as people doing business with government. In 2020, the high court threw out the convictions of political allies of former Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., over the “Bridgegate” scandal that involved four days of traffic jams on the George Washington Bridge. In 2016, the Supreme Court threw out the bribery conviction of former Gov. CHICAGO - The St. Louis Cardinals, still in last place in the National League, have quite a bit of work ahead if they hope to salvage the season. Lately, one unlikely source is rising to the challenge. Paul DeJong, the team's longest-tenured position player, returned from the injured list in late-April. Quietly, the former All-Star is regaining form and reemerging as a force in the Cardinals lineup. On Wednesday, DeJong strung together his sixth multi-hit in 13 games this season. One night before, he delivered a late tiebreaking home run to pave the way to a Cardinals series win over the division-rival Chicago Cubs.
