Marin Catholic ends McClymonds season, Michael Peters’ coaching career, in dramatic NorCal 3-A title game KENTFIELD — A few moments after a desperation pass by McClymonds hit the turf and Marin Catholic celebrated its 35-28 victory in the NorCal 3-A title game Saturday, Michael Peters took a few minutes to stand by himself and reflect upon his 11 years as the Warriors’ head coach.Peters’ career, one that included four state titles and six NorCal championships, did not have a storybook ending. As he thought about his tenure at his alma mater, which began as an assistant coach in 1992, Peters said he was ready to enjoy retirement, but couldn’t help but feel like it could have been delayed by one more week.“It’s over … my career is done,” Peters said, adding after a sigh, “I know we should’ve played better than that.”McClymonds trailed 21-6 at halftime but got rushing touchdowns from Tajir Golden (61 yards) and Redmani Albert (5 yards) and a fumble recovery for a score by Jajaun Hudson. But on two occasions in the second half...

Observations: Warriors blow another big lead, lose to Los Angeles Clippers LOS ANGELES — The Warriors led until the final 8.9 seconds when Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George hit a go-ahead 3-pointer to hand Golden State a 113-112 loss on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors fell to 9-11 on the year and lost their fourth consecutive road game, but head coach Steve Kerr saw more silver lining than cloud in the Warriors’ second 20-plus point blown lead of the week — following a 24-point blunder against the Sacramento Kings last week. Here are observations from a strong performance that went awry down the stretch.Trouble keeping a leadThe Warriors had a 19-point lead at the half and a 24-point early in the third quarter staring down the path to a breezy win. But with James Harden, George, Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook, the Clippers are built to erase big leads. Harden took over, scoring 15 points in the third quarter to get them back into it.All said, coach Steve Kerr didn’t mind the loss as much as the one in Sacramento. The King...

No. 8 Alabama knocks off No. 1 Georgia 27-24 for SEC title. Both teams await postseason fate ATLANTA (AP) — Alabama is again the top dog in the Southeastern Conference — and perhaps headed to the College Football Playoff — after ending Georgia’s 29-game winning streak with a 27-24 victory over the No. 1 Bulldogs in the Southeastern Conference championship game Saturday. Now, the big question: Is Georgia’s bid for a third straight national title over? Iron Bowl hero Jalen Milroe threw a pair of touchdown passes and No. 8 Alabama’s defense dominated much of the way after giving up a score on Georgia’s opening possession — a compelling playoff statement for a Crimson Tide team that lost at home to Texas early in the season.“A lot of people doubted this team,” said Milroe, who was benched early in the season but has bounced back to become one of college football’s most dynamic players. “I never gave up on this team. That’s the biggest thing.”Alabama (12-1) sorted out its quarterback situation and hasn’t lost since. The victory over Georgia was...
